CITY OF VANCOUVER Public Hearing A Resolution Supporting Proposition 2 A RESOLUTION expressing the City Councils support for Proposition 2, which, if approved by voters, would increase property taxes to fund improvements to fire and emergency services in the City of Vancouver. PROPOSITION NO. 2 CITY OF VANCOUVER FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES AND FACILITIES LEVY LID LIFT The City Council of the City of Vancouver adopted Resolution No. M-4155 concerning a levy lid lift to fund fire and emergency services. This proposition would fund only fire and emergency services, including additional firefighters, equipment, and construction and seismic retrofitting of facilities to improve response times. This proposition would increase the Citys regular property tax by $0.50/$1,000 assessed valuation; not exceeding a total rate of $2.56/$1,000 for collection in 2023. The 2023 levy amount, less expiring levies, will be the permanent basis to calculate subsequent levies, per RCW 84.55. Qualifying seniors, veterans, and others would be exempt, per RCW 84.36. Should this proposition be approved? YES . . . . . . . . . NO . . . . . . . . . The Council has set Monday, January 24, 2022, as the date of hearing at the hour of 6:30p.m. The City is working diligently to address the threat posed by COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus). The City is following the guidance from state and county public health officials to take all efforts to prevent the spread of this virus. In the interest of the safety and welfare of the public, the community, and our employees and to limit the spread of the virus, this City Council meeting will not be open to in-person attendance. Council will be attending this meeting remotely via video conference. All City Council workshops and meetings are broadcast (live closed captioning available) on www.cvtv.org, CVTV cable channels 23 / HD 323, and on the Citys Facebook page, www.facebook.com/VancouverUS. In addition, members of the public who wish to listen to the meeting over conference call may do so by calling: 1-877-309-2073 and entering access code 508-925-325 when prompted (credentials unique to this meeting). Public testimony will be accepted under Community Communication regarding Consent Agenda items (Items 1-4 on the agenda below) and under Public Hearings (Items 5-6). Advance registration will be required (see details below). Testimony will be accepted in the following manner: Written comments submitted in advance Comments may be sent to cmo@cityofvancouver.us until 12:00 p.m. on January 24. Comments will be compiled and sent to the City Council and entered into the record. Remote testimony during the meeting Advance registration is required to testify remotely. Registration is open until 12:00 p.m. on January 24.
